Need help?

Finding support with us

However you've come to be here, there's a place for you. Our peer support is gentle, human and led by people who understand — because they've been there too. Here's how to take the first step.

Two pathways

Which kind of support are you looking for?

Bereaved by suicide

When suicide touches your family or friends, the grief can feel isolating and hard to put into words. Our bereavement support is a safe space to be met by others who truly understand — whether your loss was recent or many years ago.

Struggling with mental health

If you're living with anxiety, stress, low mood, family or relationship difficulties, or simply feeling alone, our mental health peer support offers warmth, connection and a listening ear.

What to expect

Coming along for the first time

No referral needed

There's no waiting list and no forms to fill in first. Many of our groups you can simply drop in on the day.

Go at your own pace

Share as much or as little as you like. It's completely fine to come along and just listen over a cuppa.

A friendly welcome

If you'd feel more comfortable knowing a familiar face will be there, message us first and we'll look out for you.

How to get started

Some of our groups are drop-in, and some you'll need to book a place for first. The easiest way to begin is simply to get in touch — tell us a little about what you're looking for, and we'll point you to the right group or wellbeing walk.

Email info@behindthesmile.care or call or text us on 07999027313. You can also see everything that's currently running on our groups page.

Please note: Behind the Smile is a peer-support community, not a crisis service. If you need urgent help right now, please see our urgent help page — Samaritans are on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.

Take the first step, whenever you're ready.

There's no wrong reason to reach out, and no pressure once you do.
